Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in the District of Columbia is seeking a Labor & Delivery nurse to coordinate and monitor patient care within the assigned area. You will administer medications, manage IV therapy, and ensure safety for post-sedation recovery with collaboration from physicians and the care team.

The role requires at least 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, RN licensure in the required states, and Basic Life Support. Onsite work at Capitol Hill Medical Center, 40 hours/week, Day shift.

Qualifications

• 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience in last 3 years.
• RN license in Maryland and Virginia within 6 months; or DC compact license within 6 months.
• Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications and IV therapy per KP standards.
• Ensures emergency equipment and supplies; documents incidents.
• Coordinates patient teaching plans for surgery, diabetes, HTN, diet, weight control.
• Sets up and assists with procedures; performs wound care as ordered.
• Coordinates recovery care post-sedation and ensures patient safety.
• Triages walk-in patients as needed or assigned.
• Manages delivery system workflow and supports care methods.
• Acts as resource person to LPNs and Clinic Assistants.
• Acts as patient advocate and escalates unresolved issues.

Job Summary

To coordinate and monitor care of patients in the assigned clinical area.

Essential Responsibilities

• Administers all oral and injecting medications in the assigned clinical area. Ensures narcotics and drug supplies are available and secured according to KP standards and regulatory laws. Initiates and monitors IV therapy for therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Provides ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies. Responds to emergency situations throughout the medical facility and documents incidents to the supervisor.
• Coordinates, implements, and evaluates patient teaching plans related to surgery, wound care, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, therapeutic diet instruction, weight control, and other designated areas.
• Sets up, performs, and/or assists with procedures as appropriate. Provides wound care per provider team orders.
• Coordinates recovery care of patients post-sedation and ensures safety measures for compromised patients.
• Triages walk-in patients as needed or assigned.
• Manages workflow of the delivery system and assists team members in identifying best methods for care.
• Acts as a resource person to LPNs and Clinic Assistants.
• Acts as patient advocate and resolves problems within HCT; escalates unresolved issues to Clinical Coordinator.
• Performs fetal monitoring
• Partners with physicians to assist with coordination of care through message management, phone triage, care advice, scheduling appointments, and patient requests.
• Performs other related duties as directed.

Experience

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Labor and Delivery within the last three (3) years OR currently employed in OB-GYN department in Kaiser Permanente OR completion of a KPMAS fellowship program.

• This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.
• Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire

• Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire
• Basic Life Support

Additional Requirements

• Proficiency in applicable computer software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Surgical or wound care experience preferred.
• AWHONN Fetal monitoring certification preferred.
• B.S.N is preferred.
