OB Surgical Technician - Maternity Services - Full Time - Nights

Under the general supervision of the nurse manager or designee, the Surgical Technician renders direct patient care according to the age and developmental level of the patient, in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Standards of Care, and the mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures of Mohawk Valley Health System.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Follow proper protocols and procedures for sharps, specimens, and aseptic techniques during procedures.
  • Label medications on the sterile field.
  • Verify operative procedure and site with patient and surgical team prior to commencement of the procedure.
  • Coordinate and demonstrate the proper use and handling of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate instrument and sponge count.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments.
  • Render safe and appropriate care for patients during positioning and transferring using appropriate positioning devices.
  • Recognize emergent patient care situations and report findings.
  • Promote and maintain overall cleanliness of the unit.
  • Adhere to Infection Control program to prevent the spread of infections, practice standard precautions, protect self, peers, patients, and visitors from infection, and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma
  • 1 year of healthcare experience

PREFERRED:

Completion of an approved Surgical Technician training program.
