Job summary

CHI St. Alexius Health in North Dakota seeks a Surgical Technologist/OB Tech to support obstetric and surgical teams, ensuring sterile technique and high-quality patient care during deliveries and procedures.

You will assist with admissions, instrument setup, and intraoperative assistance, while maintaining inventories and collaborating with RNs and physicians. Eligible for a $20,000 sign-on bonus; BLS required at hire.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a scrub tech OR
  • BLS/CPR required upon hire.
  • Willingness to undergo on-the-job training with a competency regimen.
  • Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and asepsis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
  • Set up tables, instruments, and supplies for cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and circumcisions; maintain sterile technique.
  • Respond to patient calls and ensure safety and comfort through rounds.
  • Maintain department and patient room stock and equipment inventories.
  • Assist in preparation and draping; pass, count instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
  • Maintain sterilization, cleaning, and storage of surgical instruments.

Job description

*Job Summary and Responsibilities* As our Surgical Technologist/OB Tech, you will help our patients, nursing staff, and surgical teams facilitate safe and smooth surgical procedures and deliver exceptional patient care, so they can experience positive birth outcomes and recover comfortably.

Every day you will provide direct and indirect patient care, including setting up and assisting surgical teams during C-sections, vaginal deliveries, and circumcisions, maintaining sterile fields, and managing instrumentation. You will be expected to assist with patient needs, monitor vital signs, document observations, ensure patient comfort and safety, maintain surgical equipment and supply inventories, and collaborate seamlessly with RNs, physicians, and other team members, while also engaging in professional development and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you must have knowledge of surgical instrumentation, asepsis, and medical terminology, along with the ability to anticipate patient needs, maintain sterile technique, effectively assist surgical teams, and demonstrate a commitment to patient-centered care and the well-being of obstetrical patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the admission, discharge, and transfer process of patients
  • Set up tables, instruments, and supplies required for cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and circumcisions; maintaining sterile technique.
  • Respond to patient calls, anticipate their needs, and assure their safety and comfort through regular rounds, environmental maintenance and other appropriate safety measures
  • Maintain appropriate stock and equipment inventories in the department and patient rooms
  • Assist in the preparation and draping of the patient and operative area. Prepare, pass, and maintain a correct count of instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies utilized during the operative procedure
  • Maintain surgical instruments by ensuring proper washing, packaging, sterilization, and storage

We are offering a $20,000 Sign On Bonus for those eligible.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program OR
  • Completion of on-the-job training as a scrub tech with a minimum of 5 years’ experience OR
  • Completion of an accredited medical personnel program (such as but not limited to CNA, MA, LPN, EMT I/II, or SPD tech) who are willing to do on-the-job training with a structured competency regimen
  • BLS is required upon hire (acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include: American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers)

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or OB Tech
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation
  • Understanding of asepsis principles
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
