Job summary

EVMS Medical Group in Norfolk, VA seeks a Referral Coordinator to obtain and coordinate insurance authorizations and pre-certifications across OB/GYN services. You will verify eligibility, submit requests, monitor progress, and document determinations in the EHR to support timely patient care.

You will collaborate with providers, clinical staff, scheduling and billing teams to resolve authorization issues and ensure payer requirements are met, while maintaining compliance with policies.

Responsibilities

• Review schedules and obtain required prior authorizations, retro-authorizations, and Global Care Fee authorizations for EVMS Full Care patients.
• Obtain authorizations for obstetrical hospital-based procedures and OB/GYN, Maternal Fetal Medicine, diagnostic and treatment services.
• Obtain required authorizations and referrals from referring physician offices.
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and identify applicable requirements.
• Monitor authorization requests and follow up to secure timely approvals or resolve issues.
• Document approvals and denials with CPT codes and authorization numbers in the EHR.
• Complete assigned EHR tasks in accordance with department standards and requirements.
• Receive and complete tasks from providers and staff promptly.
• Scan and upload required documents into patient charts daily.
• Maintain accurate documentation related to authorizations, referrals, insurance verification, and patient accounts.
• Communicate relevant authorization and insurance information to providers and other departments to support continuity of care.
