Job description

Department Overview:

The UW Department of Ob-Gyn plays a pivotal role in advancing reproductive health through our tireless efforts in clinical excellence, education, discovery, and advocacy. As part of the communications and multimedia team, the Communications Student Assistant will support internal and external communications efforts focused on the Department of Ob-Gyn’s research, education, and outreach goals.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Minimum: 10 Maximum:15

Schedule:

10-15 hours per week. Work schedule is flexible, but some meetings and work will be done 9a-5p.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $12.00 Maximum:$14.00

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is goal-oriented with the ability to work well independently and has skills in writing, editing, research, and social media content creation. Must demonstrate a high level of responsibility and reliability, have great attention to detail, and have the ability to think creatively about communications and strategies for engaging audiences in a variety of media.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated writing and digital communication experience (writing sample required)
Strong time management skills and ability to work independently
Available 10-15+ hours/week Monday-Friday
Verbal communication and collaboration skills
Organized

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Writing: In consultation with Communications Manager, the student communications assistant will write and edit articles for department newsletter and website, research and draft stories about the Department of Ob-Gyn, support production of the department's internal newsletter, and more.

Social Media: This position will write, gather and create engaging content for the department’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Other communications duties can include: updating online event calendars; researching and preparing interview outlines for the Department of Ob-Gyn podcast; processing and editing video and podcast transcripts; and more.

Physical Demands:

This job is primarily computer-based and does not include many physical demands.
