OB Care Technician 2 - Obstetrics * Days - 36hrs/wk

General Summary:

Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the OB Technician 2 provides basic nursing care to patients, functions as a scrub tech during Cesarean Sections, and performs related tasks necessary for department functioning. They are also responsible for clerical and receptionist activities in Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby units.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider.
  • Must meet one of the following:
  1. Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification, or
  2. Enrollment in a health science program with completion of nursing fundamentals and/or clinical rotation, or
  3. Equivalent experience such as Medical Assistant, Paramedic, EMT, Nurse Tech, LPN, etc.
  • Surgical technologist certification or completion of a surgical technologist program is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in an acute clinical environment or labor and delivery is preferred.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  1. Surgery: Assemble charts, set up instruments, maintain sterile fields, and assist during Cesarean Sections with instrumentation and equipment.
  2. Triage: Transport patients, maintain triage bays, perform delegated nursing care, and manage patient testing and documentation.
  3. Labor and Delivery: Set up delivery carts, assist with sutures, maintain asepsis, perform nursing care, and ensure supplies and equipment are adequate.
  4. Mother/Baby: Assist with ambulation, hygiene, infant care, and maternal monitoring, including vital signs and testing.
  5. Clerical: Maintain patient information, assist with documentation, and support department operations.
  6. Equipment/Supplies and Infection Control: Operate equipment safely, maintain supplies, and follow infection control protocols.
  7. Miscellaneous: Communicate effectively, participate in meetings, and perform other duties as delegated.
