The Transportation Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Research Specialist. The role involves coordinating legal activities, researching, analyzing, investigating, and drafting legal documents, and assisting Assistant Attorneys General in representing the state's interests in litigation. This position will be reclassified to an Assistant Attorney General I upon obtaining a law license with the Texas State Bar, involving entry-level attorney work such as handling lawsuits related to eminent domain, tort claims, workers’ compensation, employment discrimination, and contract claims in both State and Federal Courts.

Essential Position Functions
  • Researches and analyzes legal sources such as statutes, case law, administrative records, opinions, articles, treaties, property titles, and rules and regulations.
  • Prepares, reviews, and edits pleadings, motions, briefs, abstracts, petitions, legal correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Assists attorneys in providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance to clients.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary for job functions.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with the work schedule.
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Adheres to all agency policies, including ethics and integrity standards.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D.
  • Passed the Texas state bar exam.
  • Skills in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Positive response to constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a professional environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Personal transportation for business travel.
  • Willingness to work more than 40 hours as needed, complying with FLSA.
  • Ability to work in person at the designated OAG location and collaborate with colleagues daily.
  • Ability to lift and relocate up to 30 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%, including overnight.
