Job Description

The Biotherapeutics Process Development (BPD) group is looking for a motivated intern to assist in the development of upstream cell culture processes. The BPD group at Takeda is responsible for design, development, scale up, and transfer of manufacturing processes for early and late-stage biologic therapies. The summer intern will play a key role in platform development initiatives to advance upstream cell culture processes by utilizing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) as a modeling tool. Their primary focus will be a proof-of-concept case study aimed at optimizing amino acid content in media formulations. Responsibilities will include designing and executing experiments, performing in-depth data analysis, and presenting findings to the Bioprocess Development (BPD) team to support innovation and enhance process efficiency.

The intern will contribute to this work through hands-on execution of experiments using shake flasks, AMBR15, AMBR250, and/or benchtop bioreactor systems, under the guidance of upstream subject matter experts (SMEs). They will actively participate in experimental design, data interpretation, and effective communication of results to the broader BPD team, fostering collaboration and contributing to impactful advancements in upstream bioprocessing.

Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with team members from upstream, downstream, technical development, and analytical teams throughout the project. This opportunity will provide the student with relevant experience in cell culture-based production of protein therapeutics and facilitate development of key skills needed to thrive as an engineer or scientist in the pharmaceutical industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ongoing process development efforts to better improve the in-process control and process understanding
  • Plan and execute cell culture experiments in shake flasks, high throughput AMBR systems, and/or benchtop bioreactors
