Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Direct Hire Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician to support the safe, reliable operation of a combined-cycle power generation facility in Niles, Michigan. The Technician reports to the Plant Manager and collaborates with Control Room Operators to ensure safe, efficient operation.

This role requires hands-on experience with gas turbines, boilers, HRSGs, and balance-of-plant systems, plus knowledge of PLCs, DCS platforms, CEMS, and CMMS systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate Degree in Power Plant Technology or related field preferred.
• Experience in power generation operations and maintenance in a combined-cycle facility.
• Familiarity with PLCs, DCS platforms, CEMS, and CMMS systems.

Responsibilities

• Support the safe and reliable operation of plant equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers, HRSGs, auxiliaries, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Perform equipment startup, shutdown, monitoring, inspections, and routine operational activities.
• Identify abnormal operating conditions and equipment issues.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, minor repairs, calibration, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Perform operational and reliability testing on critical plant systems, including fire protection, lubrication, protection, and chemical safety systems.
• Operate electrical breakers and switches and perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Monitor emissions control systems and maintain environmental compliance.
• Support planned and forced outages and coordinate activities with contractors and vendors.

About the role:

We are looking for a Direct Hire Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a combined-cycle power generation facility in Niles, Michigan. The Operations & Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Plant Manager and works with the Control Room Operator and other operations and maintenance personnel to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. You will oversee field operations, equipment monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental requirements

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the safe and reliable operation of plant equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, boilers, HRSGs, auxiliaries, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Perform equipment startup, shutdown, monitoring, inspections, and routine operational activities.
• Identify abnormal operating conditions and equipment issues.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, minor repairs, calibration, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Perform operational and reliability testing on critical plant systems, including fire protection, lubrication, protection, and chemical safety systems.
• Operate electrical breakers and switches and perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Collect water samples and conduct plant chemistry testing following procedures.
• Monitor emissions control systems and maintain environmental compliance.
• Help with PLC, DCS, and plant control system troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Support planned and forced outages and coordinate activities with contractors and vendors.
• Maintain accurate equipment logs, maintenance records, CMMS work orders, and inventory transactions.
• Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with plant safety standards.
• Safely handle chemicals, perform transfer operations, and respond to spills or leaks.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
• Experience in power generation operations and maintenance in a combined-cycle facility.
• Knowledge of combustion turbines, boilers, steam systems, auxiliary equipment, and balance-of-plant operations.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, control system diagrams, and operating procedures.
• Familiarity with PLCs, DCS platforms, CEMS, and CMMS systems.
• Experience with OSHA regulations, environmental compliance requirements, and safe work practices.
• Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license required.
