Job description

Job Summary:

The Automotive Mechanic II will modify cars and trucks in a prototype environment, performing a wide range of diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance. The Automotive Mechanic II will perform independent project tasks and collaborate with customers and team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain vehicle functional condition by working off repair orders or leader instructions and conducting inspections.
  2. Repair mechanical and electrical system malfunctions and replace parts and components.
  3. Read, interpret, and follow service procedures.
  4. Maintain vehicle records by entering notes, service, and repair orders.
  5. Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs.
  6. Participate in daily shop organization and clean-up.
  7. Remove interior components, trim panels, seats, center consoles, and dashes.
  8. Remove and replace intake and exhaust systems.
  9. Inspect and/or remove/replace drivelines and repair issues if needed.
  10. Pull cabs and/or bed boxes.
  11. Work on NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) issues in trucks with both gas and diesel engines, including turbos.
  12. Investigate squeaks, rattles, and groundout issues.
  13. Remove engines and transmissions if needed.
  14. Install engineering harnesses/instrumentation to diagnose and repair NVH issues.
Education and Experience (required):
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience as a Mechanic.
  • Knowledge of mechanical assembly and ability to operate shop equipment.
  • Good attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Own tools with rolling toolbox and ability to work overtime and weekends.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and execute written procedures.
Education and Experience (preferred):
  • Certificate in Automotive Technology or related.
  • ASE Certification(s).
  • State Mechanic Certification(s).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of vehicle alignments, A/C system repairs, tire machines, and balancers.
