Job summary

Scotland County Health and Human Services Department seeks a Nutritionist II to provide clinical nutrition services to WIC participants and design programs addressing community needs. Responsibilities include nutrition assessments, counseling, and developing care plans aligned with client goals.

The role involves training staff, participating in outreach activities, and promoting breastfeeding through health fairs and community events.

Qualifications

• RD credential required or eligible from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
• Master's degree in Dietetics or related field preferred.
• CADE-accredited DPID graduation with 2 years nutrition experience acceptable.
• DTR with Bachelor’s degree and 2 years nutrition experience acceptable.
• BS in Dietetics or Nutrition with 2 years nutrition experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical nutrition services to WIC participants.
• Perform WIC certification for prenatal and postpartum women, infants and children.
• Develop basic care plans and food prescriptions based on client needs.
• Provide counseling on food groups, diet habits, and pregnancy/postpartum nutrition.
• Assist WIC Director in training staff for re-certifications and clinics.
• Support nutrition services orientation for new HHSD employees.
• Participate in nutrition outreach with Health Education, Adult/Child/Maternity programs.
• Promote nutrition and breastfeeding at community events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration

Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition

Didactic Program in Dietetics CADE-approved graduation + 2 years nutrition experience

Dietetic Technician, Registered + Bachelor's degree + 2 years nutrition experience

Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition + 2 years nutrition experience

The Nutritionist II provides clinical nutrition services to clients with broad or comprehensive nutrition needs. By using the application of nutritional theories and concepts, depth of nutritional assessment and counseling, the Nutritionist II is able to efficiently assess community nutrition needs and design programs to meet those needs.

• Provides nutritional services to participants on the WIC program.
• Performs WIC certification for prenatal and postpartum women, infants and children by performing nutritional assessments for clients by evaluating the client's anthropometric and biochemical measurements, socio-economic conditions and diet history to determine nutritional eligibility for WIC.
• Develops basic care plans, including food prescriptions based on the clients' nutritional and developmental needs and preferences.
• Provides basic nutrition counseling to nutrition services clients usually consisting of application of the food groups, proper diet habits, and the nutritional requirements of pregnancy and postpartum women, infants and children.
• Assists the WIC Director in training non-nutritionist health department staff involved in WIC re-certifications, including nursing staff, for mother and infant re-certifications, postpartum and child health clinics, as well as maternal and child services coordinators for pregnant women and children.
• Assists the WIC Director in providing nutrition services orientation/training for new Scotland County Health and Human Services Department employees.
• Participates in nutrition outreach efforts through Health Education, Adult Health, Child Health and Maternity programs, as well as with interagency organizations, which may include local community college, NC Cooperative Extension Services, Scotland Memorial Hospital, and other local community organizations and healthcare providers.
• Promotes nutrition and breastfeeding through participation in community health and pregnancy fairs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration;

• OR, Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition;

• OR,GRaduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience;

• OR, Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience;

• OR, Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience.

Special Requirements

• Applicants will provide documentation of registration status from the Commission on Dietetic Registration, provide university or college transcripts, or CADE verification statement.

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
