We are seeking a Nutritionist who will provide nutrition counseling to high-risk WIC participants, with the goal of improving client knowledge and behaviors regarding nutrition and wellness. The WIC Nutrition Services Specialist is responsible for the nutrition education training of the WIC staff and the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Nutrition Education Plan and Breastfeeding Promotion Program for the WIC Program to ensure compliance with agency, state, and federal policies and regulations. Under the supervision of the Senior WIC Nutritionist, duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Establishing and maintaining care plans for each WIC client identified as High Risk.
- Providing nutrition counseling sessions for individuals identified as High Risk.
- Conducting health assessments, including measurements of stature, weight, hemoglobin, and dietary evaluation.
- Referring clients to other health, food assistance, social services programs; issuing WIC benefits to certified clients; researching and discussing problems with appropriate personnel; and taking suitable measures to resolve issues.
- Approving the issuance of specialty infant formulas and other nutritionals prescribed by physicians.
- Developing and reviewing nutrition education materials for accuracy, age, and cultural appropriateness.
- Providing in-service training for staff regarding nutrition education and counseling skills, including motivational interviewing, patient-centered, and trauma-informed counseling techniques.
- Observing the counseling skills of nutrition staff.
- Developing training programs for professional and paraprofessional staff; conducting staff training as needed.
- Leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Nutrition Education Plan and Breastfeeding Promotion Program.
- Performing certifications and other clinic activities as needed.
- Working closely with other team members.
- Participating in team/staff meetings; attending in-service meetings and applicable workshops.
- Staying current with best practices in maternal and child nutrition.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Ensuring proper orientation and training of new hires and conducting individualized training for staff needing additional assistance.
