Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System on the Largo unit seeks a Nutrition Services Aide to support patient meals and diet compliance. You will communicate with patients, assist with menu selections, and help deliver and assemble trays according to diet guidelines.

The role involves maintaining unit kitchens, recording meal intake, and ensuring safe food handling while assisting in water service and tray counts as needed.

Qualifications

• One year of food preparation experience (preferred in large-scale institutional dietary setting).
• Sanitation and Food Handlers course preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as the primary point of contact for nutrition services on the patient unit.
• Distributes, assists, collects and corrects patient menu selections.
• Delivers patient trays to floors using Meal Delivery Carts.
• Assembles Meal Trays according to patient selections and diet guidelines.
• Passes meal trays and nourishments with two patient identifiers and collects trays, including isolation patients.
• Fills patient requests and retrieves missing items for delivery to patients.
• Records intake for patients on I&O or caloric counts.
• Maintains unit kitchens and cleans kitchens and refrigerators.

Job Requirements

• Principal Duties:Functions as the primary point of contact for nutrition services on the patient unit. Utilizes problem-solving and communications skills as well as knowledge of diet therapies to perform duties in an accurate and timely manner.
• Principal Duties:Distributing, assisting, collecting and correcting of patient menu selections.
• Deliver patient trays to floors per unit using Meal Delivery Carts.
• Assemble Meal Trays according to Patient Selections and Diet Guidelines.
• Passing of meal trays and nourishments using two Patient identifiers and collecting of meal trays from all patients, including isolation patients
• Fill patient requests and retrieve missing/needed items for delivery to patients in timely manner.
• Assist in passing water to patients.
• Record intake for patients on I & O's and/or caloric counts.
• Maintain the unit kitchens.
• Clean kitchen and refrigerators
• Record refrigerator temperatures each day and adjust thermostats as necessary.
• Rotating and replenishing bulk nourishments.
• Maintain updated diet lists, and status on all patients.
