Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Diet Services Assistant to support nutrition services for patients in Colorado. You will lead meal service processes, educate patients on diet orders, and ensure accurate tray assembly and presentation, while maintaining high standards of customer service and sanitation.

The role involves collaboration with dietary, nursing, and food service staff, and requires flexibility for weekend/holiday rotations and post-offer health assessments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
• Understanding of nutrition services, modified diets, and portion measures.
• 3 years of related experience and/or education in healthcare nutrition services.
• Ability to lead assignments and reschedule staff in supervisor's absence.
• Ability to work effectively with business computer software and POS systems.
• Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required.
• Demonstrated effective customer service skills.
• Minimum commitment of 2 shifts per month for Registry/Per Diem positions.
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
• Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check required.
• Additional health care nutrition skills and knowledge preferred.
• Bilingual skills preferred in some assignments.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Job description

• Answer phones and take patient meal orders
• Educate patients on their physician-ordered diets
• Visit patients to obtain or discuss menu selections based on prescribed diets
• Check patient selections against defined diet selections and make modified diet decisions
• Enter or record daily patient meal selections and preferences
• Provide standard information for prescribed diets and request Dietary staff assistance when needed
• Edit patient menus, tally daily menu item counts, and prepare production sheets
• Lead patient tray assembly and meal service processes when assigned
• Ensure food presentation meets quality standards and check trays for menu compliance
• Deliver and serve meals, making judgments about special requests, snacks, and nourishments
• Interact with patients, families, food service staff, nursing staff, and dietary staff
• Complete diet office processes and provide lead responsibility in the supervisor's absence
• Maintain customer service, dietary, food quality, and sanitation standards

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
• Reading, writing, and mathematical skills
• Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures
• Skills and knowledge in health care nutrition services typically gained through 3 years of related experience and/or education
• Ability to effectively lead assignments and reschedule staff assignments in the supervisor's absence
