Job summary

The role requires basic education, food service experience, and a Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire; work shifts may vary and the department emphasizes patient care and accuracy.

Qualifications

Job Summary

Accountable for the distribution and marking of menus and the accurate recording of diet information on appropriate forms.

Responsibilities

• Organize and coordinate functions and activities in the Nutrition Services Department (dietary office) to ensure effective processing and distribution of meals.
• Maintain knowledge of the operation of the patient computer system, the modification of diets, and enteral formulas and formulations.
• Process diet changes and special requests.
• Oversee assembly tray-line, as assigned.
• Distribute and mark menus.
• Accurately record diet prescription and information on appropriate forms.
• Maintain menu filing system.
• Maintain office supplies.
• Determine food count and maintain records of numbers.
• Assist patients/customers with menu selections.
• Assist and participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the department PI programs.
• Participate in inservices and educational programs and apply procedures, techniques, and information appropriately.
• Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain customer satisfaction surveys, meal rounds, and tray assessments.
• Appropriately dispatch incoming messages (computer, phone, and/or pager).
• Orient and train employees as assigned.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 6 - 12 Months related experience in office/clerical or food service setting Substitution: Graduate of applicable technical school program may substitute for 6 - 12 months related experience. Relevant experience as determined by the manager can substitute for the High School Diploma or GED.
