Join our team as a Nutrition Assistant at the Pelham School District!

Home to more than 1,600 students, the Pelham School District comprises Pelham Elementary School (preschool‑grade 5), Pelham Memorial School (grades 6‑8), and Pelham High School (grades 9‑12). We provide a supportive learning environment with a wide variety of extracurricular clubs, activities, and sports.

About the Position

The Nutrition Services Assistant helps to prepare and serve nutritious and appealing meals in a sanitary and efficient manner. Responsibilities include assisting with food preparation, maintaining sanitation and safety standards, ensuring food quality, and delivering excellent customer service to students, parents and faculty.

  • Follow all USDA and sanitation regulations applicable to the school nutrition service program.
  • Maintain awareness of special diets or food allergies to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
  • Prepare, serve, and clean all food items and equipment as instructed by the Manager or Director.
  • Verify that all produced food meets quality standards.
  • Fill out cleaning logs, production records, and temperature logs.
  • Use the food service computer system and district email system as needed.
  • Assist with ordering food and supplies, and with production records and other forms.
  • Attend all in‑service meetings, workshops, and trainings scheduled by the Director.
  • Maintain eight hours of annual continuing education/training.
  • Practice good customer service with all staff, students, and customers.
  • Prepare food and/or work at special functions as assigned by the Director.
  • Report unsafe equipment or work hazards to the Manager.
  • Assist with the implementation of the HACCP plan.
  • Perform other nutrition services positions to ensure each station or job function is completed daily as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Manager or Nutrition Services Director.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is based on experience. Benefit eligibility is based on assigned hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficient math, reading, and computer skills.
  • Ability to calculate the total cost of items on a food tray and perform basic cash‑handling.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Experience understanding the basic principles relevant to the primary functions of the job.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs at a time.
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, and pull frequently.
  • Ability to stand for the majority of shift.
  • Ability to walk frequently.
