The job of Nutrition Services Manager Elementary is to oversee the food service activities at an assigned location. Responsibilities include organizing food preparation activities, overseeing and assisting cafeteria workers, confirming quantities and quality of food items, providing reports of daily operations, and ensuring compliance with mandated nutritional and health requirements.
Essential Functions
- Cleans utensils, equipment, and storage, food preparation and serving areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Estimates food preparation amounts and adjusts recipes to meet projected meal requirements and minimize waste.
- Evaluates prepared food for flavor, appearance and temperature to ensure student and staff acceptance.
- Implements menu plans to meet students’ mandated daily nutritional requirements.
- Inspects food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality and specifications and comply with health requirements.
- Inventories food, condiments, supplies and equipment at specified intervals to ensure availability for the menu.
- Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition to comply with health standards.
- Maintains documents, files and records for regulatory compliance.
- Manages assigned site operations such as supervising personnel, creating menus, identifying food allergies, monitoring meal accounts, evaluating products, verifying pricing, and planning for emergencies.
- Monitors food service operations for a safe, clean, and sanitary environment.
- Orders food, equipment and supplies to maintain inventory within budget guidelines.
- Orients new employees to site processes and sanitation practices.
- Oversees preparation, cooking, serving and transportation of food to meet meal quantities and nutritional standards.
- Participates in unit meetings, in-service training and workshops to convey or gather necessary information.
- Performs functions of other nutritional positions as needed.
- Prepares documentation such as meal program records, reconciliation reports and time sheets.
- Processes receipts and prepares bank deposits.
- Reconciles transactions to maintain account balances.
- Responds to inquiries from students, staff and the public about food items and policies.
- Schedules work hours and assignments for cafeteria employees for adequate coverage.
- Stocks food, condiments and supplies to maintain quantities.
- Supervises food service workers and evaluates training to maximize efficiency.
- Trains and evaluates prospective new managers for the Manager Intern Program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Training
Must renew Serv Safe certification every 3 years.
Certificates and Licenses
Food Handler's Permit, Serv Safe Certificate.
Requirements
- Age 16+
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
