Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care’s Nursing Unit Clerk role on the 2RC unit in Iowa City supports nursing care by handling clerical tasks, reception, and unit communications. You will work 100% of the time on weekdays, interacting with patients and staff while maintaining electronic systems and census data.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma with clerical or healthcare exposure, familiarity with MS Word/Excel, and comfort with public-facing interactions.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent combined with clerical/healthcare experience totals one year, or two years overall experience.
• Desirable: 6 months clerical experience, public contact/customer service, medical terminology knowledge.
• Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients, visitors, and health care professionals in an effective manner.
• Maintains electronic communication systems for team and patient updates.
• Answers phones, delivers messages, and updates unit white boards daily.
• Assists with call lights and relay information to team members promptly.
• Navigates web-based resources and uses clinical and business applications.
• Maintains census information and processes patient charges.
• Prepares forms with patient identification for admissions.
