Job summary

The Nursing Technician at Good Samaritan University Hospital, part of Catholic Health, assists with patient care under the supervision of a Nurse Practitioner. This role supports safe treatment, patient comfort, and efficient department flow in a high-volume teaching hospital on Long Island.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, NA program completion, BLS, and basic computer and terminology skills. Prior hospital patient care experience is valued.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient visits, equipment prep, vitals, orientation, and safety measures.
• Performs direct patient care focusing on hygiene, safety, comfort, and family needs.
• Assists with oxygen equipment prep, phlebotomy, and 12-lead EKG.
• Transports patients and specimens safely and promptly.
• Facilitates patient flow through the department.

The Nursing Technician performs, under the supervision or direction of a Nurse Practitioner, those duties to assist in safe treatment and care of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Nursing Assistant must demonstrate behaviors consistent with GSHMC’s model of patient care.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

• Practices regular hand hygiene and complies with standard and transmission based precautions as applicable
• Responds appropriately to the special needs of each group served specific to age, language, gender, culture, religion/spirituality, economic background, education or literacy, developmental or cognitive disabilities, physical and developmental disabilities.
• Under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical nurse, assists with patient visits to PST re: reception, equipment preparation, vital signs, obtaining actual weights, orientation to surroundings and implementation of safety measures
• Performs direct care with attention to personal hygiene, safety, comfort and skin care while anticipating the needs of the patient and family.
• Performs oxygen equipment preparation, phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG
• Assists and/or transports patients in a timely and safe manner.
• Collects and transports specimens maintaining standards mandated by regulatory agencies.
• Facilitates patient flow through the department.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of NA program, BOCES, Military Hospital Corps School or equivalent, or completion of medical/surgical experience within an RN program; Current BLS
• Knowledge of computer systems and/or prior clerical experience preferred; Ability to interpret medical terminology;
• Previous patient care experience, in a hospital setting referred

Salary Range

USD $28.65 - USD $37.25 /Hr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
