Job summary

White Plains Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Nursing Technician for the Medical-Surgical Acute 5I unit. The role involves supporting patient care, vital signs, I&O, and basic tasks under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, minimal prior hospital experience, and completion of a 4‑day EKG class for those reading monitors. BLS certification is required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care tasks and documentation of vital signs and I&O under RN supervision.
  • Assists with ADLs, meals, transport, and basic dressing changes for patients.
  • Performs EKGs, specimen collection, and simple procedures as assigned.
  • Supports with procedures, exams, and adheres to infection control and safety policies.

Hours Per Pay Period: 75
Pay Rate/Range: $25.00 - $28.80

Job Summary The Nursing Technician performs patient care and non-patient care functions within their scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Duties include but are not limited to ADL's, vital signs, I&O, performing EKGs, documentation of vital signs and I & O, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, assisting with meals, errands, transporting of patients, medications, or specimens, ambulating of patients, urinary drainage care (indwelling, external and suprapubic), assists with colostomy care, applies binders, weighs patients, assists health care providers with procedures and physical exams, and other duties as assigned.

  • 3. Integrates patient’s rights into work practice.
  • 4. Utilizes current methods of infection control.
  • 5. Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives.
  • 6. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit-based issues.
  • 7. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team.
  • 8. Completes competency requirements.
  • 9. Attends mandatory in-services.
  • 10. Attends staff meetings as required/ requested.
  • 11. Utilizes cost containment practices.
  • 12. Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical.
  • 13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Required or GED Required
  • less than 1 year Previous experience in hospital or with patient care preferred
  • Preferred Nursing Technicians that will be trained to read the monitors require the 4-day EKG class Required

  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association. Nursing Technicians must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 6 months within 180 Days Required.
