Job summary

Grady Health System is seeking a Nursing Support Technician to assist with inpatient patient care under supervision of a RN/LPN/physician. The NST provides personal care, assists with daily living activities, and supports patient comfort and safety in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role includes learning and performing basic nursing tasks, advocacy, and contributing to performance improvement initiatives while ensuring compassionate and culturally sensitive care for diverse patient

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Georgia CNA Certification or PCT program completion or Basic Nursing Fundamentals course evidenced on transcript.
  • BLS from American Heart Association certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs hourly rounding using AIDET/5Ps/Words that Work.
  • Maintains medical asepsis with proper hand hygiene.
  • Assist with patient positioning and comfort; support patient care flow.
  • Provide education to patient and family.
  • Obtain and report vital signs, height/weight, and blood glucose as applicable.
  • Assist RN and unit clerks with routine tasks and operations to improve patient care.

Job Summary

The Nursing Support Technician (NST), under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, provides age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintains a safe environment, collects information, communicates effectively, and utilizes technology. Provides personal care of selected patients, assists with activities of daily living, provides comfort measures and nourishments, and performs selected tasks and therapies as delegated by a licensed professional. The NST primarily functions in the inpatient settings. The role of the NST also includes patient advocacy, teaching, and performance improvement. In addition, the NST roles include performing both basic and advance skills and task as determined by competency validation.

  • Performs Hourly Rounding with use of AIDET/5Ps/Words that Work.
  • Demonstrates medical asepsis by following established isolation standards and hand hygiene.
  • Serve as a Nurse Care Partner or unit clerk upon completion of required competencies.
  • Cleans and stores equipment to prevent spread of microorganisms.
  • Assists RN with patient positioning/repositioning to promote comfort and decrease skin breakdown. Also assist RNs and unit clerks with hospital operation systems tasks and activities to improve patient flow.
  • Maintains a clean environment in patient rooms (linen changes, tidy bedside tables).
  • Provide education to Patient/Family and other health care workers
  • Advocates for patient/family rights and report communication issues and concerns to the supervisor.
  • Assist patients with personal care needs (baths, oral care, and nourishment).
  • Obtains, documents, and reports vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, height/weight at the point of care accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • One of the following: Current Georgia Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA), Certificate of completion from an accredited Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program, Completion of a Basic Nursing Fundamental Course as evidence on official transcript from an accredited School of Nursing
  • BLS from American Heart Association
