The Nursing Support Technician (NST), under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, provides age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintains a safe environment, collects information, communicates effectively, and utilizes technology. Provides personal care of selected patients, assists with activities of daily living, provides comfort measures and nourishments, and performs selected tasks and therapies as delegated by a licensed professional. The NST primarily functions in the inpatient settings. The role of the NST also includes patient advocacy, teaching, and performance improvement. In addition, the NST roles include performing both basic and advance skills and task as determined by competency validation. Performs Hourly Rounding with use of AIDET/5Ps/Words that Work. Demonstrates medical asepsis by following established isolation standards and hand hygiene. Serve as a Nurse Care Partner or unit clerk upon completion of required competencies. Cleans and stores equipment to prevent spread of microorganisms. Assists RN with patient positioning/repositioning to promote comfort and decrease skin breakdown. Also assist RNs and unit clerks with hospital operation systems tasks and activities to improve patient flow. Maintains a clean environment in patient rooms (linen changes, tidy bedside tables). Provide education to Patient/Family and other health care workers Advocates for patient/family rights and report communication issues and concerns to the supervisor. Assist patients with personal care needs (baths, oral care, and nourishment). Obtains, documents, and reports vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, height/weight at the point of care accurately and in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned.
