Job summary

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Nursing Station Technician at Fairview Riverside University Hospital. The role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties under a nurse's supervision to deliver direct patient care and administrative support on a busy med/surg unit.

Starting pay is $23.40 per hour with higher rates possible for experienced candidates. Position is 0.8 FTE with DAY shift, 8-hour shifts, every other weekend.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required. OnTrack participants must obtain BLS upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• Completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program is preferred.
• Six months of recent direct care experience in long-term, home care, or acute care settings.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program and one semester of clinical rotation completed.

Responsibilities

• Assists the professional caregiver in delivering patient care (hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, feeding).
• Transporting patients and equipment.
• 1:1 sitting with patients.
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms.
• Reordering and stocking supplies.
• Answering phones, processing admissions, discharges and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling charts and ordering tests.

The starting base rate of pay for the Nursing Station Technician is $23.40 Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.

This position will a 0.8 FTE (64 hours per pay period) on the DAY Shift, 8 hour variable shifts, every other weekend.

About this unit:

This is a 24 bed med/surg unit with patients experiencing a range of conditions, including but not limited to:

• Sepsis
• Overdoses/Withdrawals
• Surgical procedures
• Telemetry
• Diabetes
• Pneumonia
• Altered mental status (AMS)

About this Role:

The NST is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties. In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit. The NST will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit. Other job duties include:

• Assists the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Transporting patient and/or equipment
• 1:1 sitting with patients
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Reordering, and stocking supplies
• Answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests

Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry
