Job Overview

Come be a part of our team on our newly remodeled Med/Surg Intermediate Care Unit as a Nursing Station Technician!

This position works 60 hours in a 2 week pay period on the overnight shifts (7pm-7am) 12 hour shifts, every other weekend. This position is benefit eligible.

About this unit:

  • 24 private rooms
  • Management of post-surgical populations including ortho/spine, urology, gyn and plastics
  • Cardiac and Medical Telemetry
  • Respiratory management (Bipap, high flow O2), IV drips, general medical

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a RN to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Job responsibilities include:

  • Patient personal care/interventions.
  • Answers patient call lights promptly for both assigned and other patients.
  • Assists patient with grooming and hygiene needs, maintains skin integrity, personal comfort and population specific needs of the patient.
  • Provides assistance with ambulation, transfer, positioning and range of motion (ROM) according to activity order and needs of the patient.
  • Implements activities of fall prevention plan as specified in plan of care.
  • Assist in specimen collection.
  • Provides assistance to the RN for admission, transfer, discharge and post-mortem care.
  • Bedside 1:1 attendant support.
  • Setting up and maintaining orderly patient rooms.
  • Observes, collects and documents health status data.
  • Obtains vital signs, intake/output recordings, weights and glucometer checks
  • Reports abnormal results to RN.
  • Documents according to documentation guidelines.
  • Contributes to an environment that is safe for patients, visitors and employees;
  • Upholds Fairview values and demonstrates professional communication and accountability to patients, peers and leaders.
  • Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Uses equipment following policies, procedures and manufacturer directions or standards.
  • May handle hazardous waste (identifies, segregates, and disposes of hazardous waste; ensures container integrity)

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program

AND ONE or more of the following:

  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.

OR

  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

OR

  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

OR

  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
