Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Minnesota seeks a Nursing Station Technician (NST) to support professional caregivers in patient care delivery, transport, room setup, and supply management. The role includes clerical, transcription, and unit desk maintenance, coordinating communication on the care unit, under nurse direction.

Responsibilities include handling calls, coordinating tests and transport, using EHR, and ensuring timely information flow among care teams and departments.

Qualifications

• Less than 1 year direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting.
• Basic Life Support certification required (or ability to obtain).
• Completion of Fairview OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or Fairview-sponsored program.
• Six months of direct care experience in relevant settings (Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or ER Tech).
• Current enrollment in an LPN/RN/NP program with at least one clinical rotation completed.
• Current certification on Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry at hire (not necessarily maintained afterwards).

Responsibilities

• Facilitates timely flow of communication on the patient care area.
• Promptly answers the telephone identifying self and area, clarifies information, and follows through on messages.
• Coordinates desk area activities for prompt, accurate handling of communication.
• Answers patient intercom promptly and relays requests timely.
• Provides basic patient care tasks and assists care team in a friendly, cooperative manner.
• Coordinates scheduling of tests, lab work, and other procedures; assists with transport.
• Effectively uses EHR.
• Identifies and resolves unit-specific issues with other departments as needed.
• Completes clerical duties in an organized, priority-based manner.
• Assembles admission charts and maintains patient charts per site policies.
• Obtains necessary paperwork for charts/orders; adds/deletes reports following proper chart order.
• Facilitates corrections in EHR as delegated by RN/MD.
• Prepares charts for discharge and transfers.
• Adheres to processes for next level of care communication.
• Prepares informational sources for census, computer data, etc.
• Manages unit communication technology.
• Transcribes physician orders timely and accurately.

Education

OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program

Enrollment in LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program (with one clinical semester completed)

Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification at hire

Six months of recent direct care experience in long term, home care or acute care setting

Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
