Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a part-time Nursing Station Clerk 1 assigned to inpatient or outpatient units. You will greet visitors, answer phones, perform data entry, maintain daily and clinical logs, prepare and maintain patient charts, fill medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mail patient letters, and deliver supplies and records to the unit.

This role participates in NY HELPS with provisional appointments and Civil Service eligibility pathways, including pre-employment

Qualifications

• Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1.
• If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1 you may receive a canvass letter.
• You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
• In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered.
• For provisional appointment, candidates must have the following:
• One year of full-time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience
• Provisional candidates must take the examination for Nursing Station Clerk 1 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
• This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and are subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
• Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.
• Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1.

This team member greets visitors and direct them to appropriate locations; answer telephones; perform data entry activities; maintain daily and clinical logs; prepare, update, and maintain patient charts and files; fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions; mail patient letters; and deliver supplies and records to an assigned unit.

NY HELPS Program

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Anticipated Pay Range

The salary range for this position is $37,862 - $39,956 / year *Pro Rated by Part Time Hours. The final offer will be determined based on the candidate’s verified years of relevant, comparable experience. Please note that misrepresentation or inflation of experience may result in disqualification from the hiring process or termination of employment if hired.

Supplemental Pay

• Location Pay: for UUP, CSEA, and PEF full-time positions
• Shift Differentials: Additional pay for evening, night, or other supplemental shifts (e.g., inconvenience pay, geographic pay, or other applicable differentials)
