Job Description
The Staffing Coordinator provides essential support services to University Hospital/Ross Float Pool and Clinical Resources Staff. This role acts as a liaison between departmental service lines, offering staffing support, guidance, and assistance as needed. Additionally, the coordinator provides staffing and clerical support for the Administrative Nursing Supervisors and the Clinical Resources cost center. Flexibility is crucial, especially as the department grows in volume and activity. The ideal team member is friendly, enthusiastic, and fosters a culture of cooperation and mutual respect among the departments served.
Must be available on weekends and holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordination of Staffing Resources
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving, negotiating, and conflict resolution skills while collaborating with the Staffing Supervisor, ANS, Float Pool Staff, and unit Charge Nurses to meet hospital staffing demands.
- Provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact for communications to the Clinical Resources Department.
- Respond to questions from Float Pool Staff, unit Charge Nurses, and Nursing Management, directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Handle staffing-related calls and transcribe staffing requests into the master Staffing Report Sheet.
- Compile staffing information to ensure staffing is completed every 4 hours.
Float Pool Office Duties
- Greet and direct visitors, including staff and job candidates.
- Call Float Pool staff who have not arrived for duty and notify the ANS or NM of absences.
- Assist with department payroll processes.
- Complete end-of-shift summaries.
- Maintain Float Pool logs such as VOT/MOT, Dodd Hall rotation, and Force Place.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Ability to work 3-12 hour shifts (7 am to 7 pm), no rotating shifts.
- High School diploma or GED; certification or vocational training may be preferred.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience required; 2-4 years preferred.
- Compliance with Classified Civil Service specifications.
- Preferred: 1 year related medical secretarial experience or completion of an associate's degree with three courses in medical terminology.
- Experience with computer applications for 600 hours or more, including office practices and procedures, customer service, and word processing.
- Experience processing University travel is preferred.
