Job description

Summary: To ensure sufficient nursing staff is available to meet the needs of the residents per plans of care and in accordance with governing Federal and State Regulations.

Reports To: Director of Nursing

Professional Qualifications:
  • A high school education or its equivalent desirable
  • Previous nursing experience (QMA status) is required
  • Must possess a current health certificate/examination as required by State agencies
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be mature and emotionally stable
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to relate effectively with residents, representatives, visitors, families, and employees
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with nursing employees
  • Exhibit flexibility in availability on the basis of emergency/resident need
Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for maintaining schedules and all records pertaining to nursing staff schedules (e.g., PPD)
  • Must be knowledgeable of staffing patterns and ensure staffing patterns are followed, as possible
  • Take calls for call-ins and report to Director of Nursing, as directed
  • Replace staff call-ins, as possible
  • Schedule requested days off, vacations, sick time, etc., under the direction and approval of the Director of Nursing
  • Maintain all paperwork and records of absenteeism, requests, schedules etc., and keep Director of Nursing apprised of all areas
  • May complete administrative assistant duties for Director of Nursing, as requested
  • Know and comply with Resident Rights and ensure that Residents' Rights are maintained at all times
Physical, Sensory, and Communication Requirements:
  • Ability to read and write in English, ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and support agencies and ability to remain calm under stress
  • Bending, lifting, walking, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to discern colors, ability to hear and respond to pages
