Job description

The Nursing Part-Time (PT) Clinical / Lab Supervisor supports the nursing program by supervising student learning in clinical and/or laboratory settings. This role contributes to the safe and effective delivery of clinical and/or laboratory instruction, supervises student performance, and maintains compliance with program and accreditation standards. The supervisor collaborates with college faculty and clinical partners to provide a high-quality student-centered experience that prepares students for nursing practice.

The Nursing PT Clinical /Lab Supervisor must adhere to the general guidelines as specified by the College's Policy and Procedures Manual, the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, and the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees.

Hourly Rate(s):

AS or BS degree: $36.95

MS degree or higher: $38.00

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
  1. Collaborate with the course faculty and division chair in communicating with the unit managers and healthcare personnel when serving as a clinical/lab supervisor.
  2. Supervise and guide students in all clinical/ab activities.
  3. Review students’ clinical/lab documentation and preparation assignments.
  4. Assist in evaluating student performance using established criteria.
  5. Maintain regular communication with the course faculty regarding student progress.
  6. Report to assigned duties promptly and punctually.
  7. Foster and maintain professional relationships with college faculty/staff and clinical facility staff.
  8. Provide timely input on student appraisals and submit them as directed to the course faculty.
  9. Become familiar with and adhere to institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Policy and Procedures Manual, and ACCS Policy Manual.
  10. Maintain current Registered Nursing (RN) licensure and meet health record requirements, including CPR certification, as mandated by partnering clinical facilities.

Qualified individuals may be considered for student supervision assignments in simulation clinical/laboratory settings in addition to their nursing/lab responsibilities, based on department needs and in accordance with institutional policies and programmatic/clinical site credentialing requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  2. One year of work experience as a Registered Nurse.
  3. An unencumbered Alabama RN license or a multi-state license valid for practice in Alabama is required; if supervising students in clinicals in another state, valid RN licensure for that state is also required.
  4. Strong clinical skills and/or experience supervising nursing students in clinical or lab settings.
  5. Nursing experience or education that reflects understanding of essentials of safe and effective care environments; illness prevention; health promotion, maintenance, and restoration; and the psychological well-being of individuals across the life span.
  6. Knowledge of nursing history and trends, cultural diversity, legal and ethical responsibilities, and professional practice, including leadership, management, and health care delivery systems.
  7. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Ability to use technology effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing.
  2. Clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting.
  3. Three or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
