The main policy focus for the role is the ongoing development of the Framework for Safe Nurse staffing and Skill Mix, however the post holder will also have the opportunity to support policy development aligned to the overall 2025 work programme for the unit.

Responsibilities

Reporting to a Deputy Chief Nursing Officer as part of the management structure, the Project Officer will have the following key responsibilities (please note that this list is indicative and not exhaustive):

  • Assisting in the development and design of any future workforce models of practice required to support the health service.
  • Identify and engage with/consult key stakeholders on the programmes of work across the nursing and midwifery policy areas.
  • Contributing to the implementation of the Strategy for the Office of the Chief Nursing Officer 2024-2026.
  • Supporting the nursing and midwifery components of the current policy agenda including implementation of Sláintecare and the Programme for Government.
  • Contribute significantly to the nursing and midwifery policy agenda, applying specialist clinical knowledge to broader policy development.
  • Adapt specialist knowledge and skills as required by the CNO’s office in the provision of policies, advice and coordination.
  • Maintain and assist in the further development of relationships and collaborative working with agencies, stakeholders and other parties as required both nationally and internationally and across divisions within the Department of Health.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day work of the Department, as required.
  • Undertaking such other functions and perform such other duties as may be directed or required from time to time.
