Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to assist with data analysis, evaluate and monitor RN and LPN nursing education programs to assure that the programs meet the standards and regulations of the Board of Nursing the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) of the US Department of Education and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).�School/Program adherence to standards, policies and regulations allows their graduates to sit for the national registered and practical nurse licensure examinations. This position coordinates the initial licensure process for both registered and practical nurse applicants with the exam team, communicates and� researches qualitative/quantitative information about nursing education to interested parties, and collaborates with a variety of groups and individuals regarding nursing education.


The primary role of this position is to advise international applicants and their school/program about meeting Maryland and Federal Government regulation standards. The Nursing Program Consultant monitors and assists with research projects or special projects as required. This position uses information provided by school/program annual reports, transcript evaluations and licensure pass rates to assist with reports and make recommendations to the Board.��Other duties as assigned are as followed:�


Licensure of registered nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) by Examination�
Approval of RN & LPN Education Programs-including site visits�
Commission on Graduates from Foreign Nursing Schools- CGFNS�
Alternate Liaison to Deans & Directors of RN/LPN Education Programs�
Practice and Education


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:\tA Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.


Experience:\tFive years of experience as a Registered Nurse including two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.�

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity�for the required education.�


2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university�for two years of the required experience.�


3.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a�commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The desired candidate should possess:


Knowledge and understanding of the role of the nursing education program accreditation bodies: The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), The Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing (ACEN), The National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education (NLN CNEA)
Knowledge and understanding of how nursing accreditation differs from nursing education program Code of Maryland Regulations�


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.


2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
