Job summary

MUSC Health is seeking a Nursing Professional Development Specialist I to lead and evaluate education programs that promote nursing competency and professional role performance. You will consult with nursing leadership, ICCE, and interprofessional teams to design, implement, and assess evidence‑based educational initiatives across clinical staff.

The role emphasizes outcomes measurement, collaboration, and program evaluation within a dynamic health system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum five years of applied clinical experience as an RN.
  • Master’s degree preferred; must complete a Master’s degree in Nursing within 4 years of hire.
  • Experience in an education role (clinical education, professional development, academic faculty) preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing professional development, adult learning theory, evidence‑based practice, and measurement of outcomes preferred.
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff, and other health care providers required.

Job Summary / Purpose

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist I reports to the Director of Nursing Excellence and the Manager of Clinical Excellence Education. Under indirect supervision, this role consults with nursing leadership, ICCE, organizational leadership and interprofessional teams to lead, develop, implement, and evaluate evidence‑based, quality and educational programs that promote professional competency and role performance for nursing, interprofessional, and non‑licensed clinical staff.

Minimum Training and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum five years of applied clinical experience as an RN.
  • Master’s degree preferred; must complete a Master’s degree in Nursing within 4 years of hire.
  • Experience in an education role (clinical education, professional development, academic faculty) preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing professional development, adult learning theory, evidence‑based practice, and measurement of outcomes preferred.
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff, and other health care providers required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • Current South Carolina RN licensure (or compact state) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED).
  • Certifications may be required to maintain employment.
Professional Development Requirements
  • Must complete the Association of Nursing Professional Development Transition to Nursing Professional Development Practice Fellowship within the first 6 months of hire.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Consults with leadership to design and deliver educational initiatives, assesses educational needs, develops evaluation metrics, and collaborates with interprofessional teams to implement quality improvement projects.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand, sit, and walk continuously.
  • Climb stairs (infrequent).
  • Work indoors and, infrequently, outside in temperature extremes.
  • Work from elevated areas (frequent).
  • Work in confined or cramped spaces (frequent).
  • Perform kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting and pinching operations as required.
  • Fine and gross motor activities with fingers and hands.
  • Reach overhead (frequent).
  • Repetitive hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder motions (continuous).
  • Use both legs for balance and coordination.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted (infrequent); lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs (infrequent).
  • Maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one or both eyes.
