Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Completes simple nursing treatments and monitors residents as directed by the Director of Nursing
  • Records medications and treatments in residents' clinical records
  • Communicates with physician, pharmacies, residents, and families to ensure timely medication delivery
  • Maintains medication, equipment, and med room in a clean, orderly state
  • Attends required meetings and trainings and supports other caregivers as needed
  • Performs other tasks/duties as assigned

Job description

Position Summary

The Medication Aide plays a key role in fostering a joyful and vibrant community. They care for residents by administering and assisting with both routine and non‑injectable medications given orally, rectally, or topically, following physician orders and nursing practices. This is done under the guidance and direction of the Director of Nursing Services in line with our policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Essential Position Duties
  • Completes simple nursing treatments and monitors residents as directed by the Director of Nursing where State Nursing Regulations authorize such delegation.
  • Performs various tasks assigned by the Director of Nursing Services including vital signs, residents’ weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, and lifting, moving, and transporting residents using proper body mechanics or lifting devices to prevent accidents.
  • Follows standard precautions and safe work practices, including fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security. Reports and corrects unsafe working conditions and equipment maintenance needs.
  • Maintains accurate records of medications and treatments administered or omitted on each resident’s clinical record, including reasons for omissions or PRN medication administration.
  • Records narcotics administered or received on the appropriate controlled drug count sheet and reports all medication errors immediately.
  • Reports and records changes in resident conditions, incidents, and accidents in a timely manner to the Director of Nursing Services, physician, and family members as indicated.
  • Accurately documents care services provided in observation on communication logs and incident reports.
  • Communicates effectively with physician, pharmacies, residents, and families to ensure medications are received in a timely manner.
  • Provides direct resident care while promoting resident dignity, independence, and choice; regularly observes residents’ physical and mental condition and reports to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously, respecting dignity, confidentiality standards, and individual rights.
  • Follows and supports community fire safety and infection control practices.
  • Reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Director of Nursing Services promptly.
  • Maintains medication, equipment, medication room, and med cart in a clean and orderly medication room.
  • Removes outdated or discontinued medication for return to the pharmacy.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings and trainings, staying current on all system‑assigned tasks and duties.
  • Assists caregivers in the performance of their job duties.
  • Performs other tasks/duties as assigned.
