Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago seeks a Nursing Professional Development Specialist to provide clinical nursing expertise, develop competency assessments, and lead education programs within Rush Medical Group. Reporting to the AVP Ambulatory Nursing, the role supports high-quality patient care and staff development across ambulatory settings.

The position requires an IL RN license, a BSN or higher, and a NPDS certification within two years of hire, plus BLS and 3+ years RN experience

Qualifications

  • Current State of Illinois registered nurse license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher.
  • Certification as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist within two years of hire.
  • Maintain current basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • A minimum of three years of registered nurse experience with at least one year of ambulatory experience.
  • Formal rounding and on-site presence within the dedicated region is required at least 75% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Leverages ANPD principles to deliver evidence-based nursing and education interventions.
  • Promotes a culture of inquiry and dissemination of new knowledge.
  • Identifies and validates practice gaps and prioritizes needs for improvement.
  • Applies systems thinking and coordinates interprofessional education services.
