Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (7:00:00 AM - 3:30:00 PM)

Pay Range: $48.07 - $83.16 per hour

Summary

The Nurse Educator provides and coordinates care for a specific patient care unit(s). The Nurse Educator promotes quality patient care by participating in performance improvement activities, development of nursing staff, and clinical practice. The Nurse Educator serves as a role model for other clinical nursing staff. The Nurse Educator exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience and advanced knowledge in a specialized area of clinical nursing.
  • National Certification achieved within 12 months of hire.
  • Demonstrates advanced analytical ability and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to use electronic business programs and technology.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in complex organizational systems or programs.
  • Communication skill is required to lead, teach and persuade others.
  • Able to interact effectively with others in difficult situations that encompass organizational and departmental issues.

  • APN license.
Physical Demands
  • The ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
  • Lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom exceed 300 lbs.
  • The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter and retrieve data, and closely examine specimen, images or reports is required.
  • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
Responsibilities
Evidence Based Practice
  • Integrates data and knowledge of growth and development in planning patient care.
  • Leads process improvement teams targeting nursing practice and innovation using evidence based practice and research findings.
  • Develops effective strategies for changing clinician and team behavior to encourage adoption of evidence-based practices. (UD)
  • Collaborates with Unit Director in the design, implementation and evaluation of process improvement initiatives at the unit, department and division level.
Relationship and Caring: (based on UD/some deletions)
  • Creates an environment, which establishes a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication, acknowledgement of patient/family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting.
  • Establishes constructive and strategic partnerships with peers, professional nurses, the University, other disciplines and departments to achieve positive clinical and service outcomes.
  • Uses leadership, team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships within and across units.
Critical Thinking
  • Promotes the development of critical thinking skills of all unit personnel through appreciative inquiry.
  • Critically reviews cases and events to determine the Root causes and develop action plans for improvement.
Technical Expertise
  • Collaborates with Unit Director to promote a culture of safety and accountability
  • Utilizes clinical information systems to promote safety, quality and cost effective care. (UD)
  • Strategically plans for ongoing education to acquire new knowledge and skills.
Leadership
  • Leads nursing staff in the development of practice Innovations.
  • Assumes a leadership role in analytical problem solving of both clinical and system wide issues.

Assists staff nurses in their professional growth.

  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.
  • Provides and invites ongoing performance feedback to peers, staff and other disciplines to achieve positive clinical and service outcomes.
Systems
  • Contributes to the development of policies, procedure, protocols, and patient and staff educational materials.
  • Participates in case management activities as negotiated with unit leadership.
  • Establishes procedures and processes to ensure clinical excellence.
  • Promotes continuity of care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
