VitalCore Health Strategies is seeking a Director of Nursing (RN) for the City of Alexandria Jail in Alexandria, VA. The DON will supervise nursing personnel in a 24-hour correctional setting and coordinate with Health Services administration to meet contractual performance targets.

The role requires a registered nurse with a nursing degree; Board-certified or eligible candidates with correctional healthcare certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Nursing School required.
• Bachelor or Master’s Degree in nursing preferred.
• Licensed to practice nursing in the State.
• Specialty certification in correctional healthcare desired (CCHP, CCHP-RN).
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, correctional healthcare preferred.
• Previous clinical operations management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of accreditation standards (NCCHC, ACA, state-specific).
• Experience with quality improvement programs and clinical auditing.

Responsibilities

• Supervise nursing personnel in a correctional setting and ensure 24/7 nursing coverage.
• Plan and organize staff training; coordinate with Health Services Administrator and Regional Leadership to meet contractual targets.
• Provide clinical supervision and guidance to staff; develop staffing plans to meet contract requirements.
• Support site performance improvement plans and monitor KPIs and QA initiatives.
• Conduct annual accreditation readiness audits and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Assist with recruitment standards and staff onboarding; participate in selection processes.
• Perform ongoing staff competency assessments and provide coaching and development.
