Job summary

Boston Medical Center's Bone and Joint Center seeks a Nurse Coordinator RN to oversee clinical support activities and coordinate care with physicians. This role improves patient flow, ensures high-quality care, and supports team-based management in a busy orthopedic/primary care setting.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification required.
  • Nursing degree (Diploma/ASN/BSN) with ability to obtain BSN within 4 years.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Preferred: 1 year orthopedic or internal medicine office experience.
  • Strong leadership and patient-care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all clinical support activities in the Practice.
  • Act as liaison between patients and physicians to ensure quality care.
  • Assess patients and plan/implement clinical care.
  • Document according to clinic policies and procedures.
  • Lead and participate in staff development and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA and accreditation standards.

Working directly with the physicians is the liaison between the patient and the physicians for establishing and maintaining quality patient care. Responsible for performing all duties in accordance with clinic protocols and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.
  • Utilizes clinical teamwork to oversee the interdisciplinary plan of care:
  • Assesses the patient and family as appropriate
  • Plans and implements clinical care and facilitates its delivery to patients and family members Evaluates the process and outcome of clinical services in the practice and makes suggestions for improvement
  • Documents according to practice policies and procedures
  • Practices and promotes professional clinical care within legal and ethical standards
  • Provides education/consultation as needed to other health care team members and to patients and families
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through identification of own learning needs
  • Encourages an environment of teamwork with other employees. Demonstrates flexibility and creativity in dealing with unforeseen developments through participative leadership and problem solving
  • Uses resources and completes assignments in the most cost-effective manner
  • Willingly adapts to changing workloads and helps others when they are busy
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills by:
  • Organizing and appropriately prioritizing patient care assignments Demonstrating effective delegation skills

  • Assists with determining appropriate staffing levels. Assists with recruitment efforts for new clinical staff. Assists with evaluating clinical staff performance and completion of performance evaluations
  • Assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate medical supply and pharmaceutical inventory. Assists in placing orders as necessary
  • As a member of clinic management, ensures that the practice meets all code and accreditation standards (OSHA, DPH, JCAHO, CLIA, HIPAA)
  • Administers vaccinations and injections
  • Administers infusions and biologics
  • Triages telephone calls and schedules urgent care appointments.
  • Frequent contact with outside providers and agencies to facilitate and coordinate patient care.
  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required

Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Required Education And Experience

Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years

3 years' experience in a clinical setting

Preferred Education And Experience

At least 1 year of clinical experience with sub-specialties

Clinical Orthopedic Experience Preferred

Experience in an office setting related to internal medicine

Compensation Range

$69,500.00- $101,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
