Job summary

The University System of New Hampshire seeks a Nursing Clinical Learning Specialist to supervise and coordinate nursing students’ clinical experiences in health and social care settings. The role collaborates with UNH faculty, health providers, and clinical agencies to deliver a high-quality clinical education experience.

The position includes supervising students, evaluating performance, and guiding clinical decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing and 2 years of experience in the relevant clinical specialty area – or – Bachelor's degree in Nursing with enrollment in a master's degree program and five years of experience in the relevant clinical specialty area.
  • Unencumbered Registered Nurse license within relevant State
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Must comply with health documentation requirements of clinical facilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision of students within the clinical setting and assist them to accomplish clinical learning objectives
  • Understand course objectives and provide clinical instruction aligned with the curriculum
  • Supervise students and ensure safe, quality patient care in a learning environment
  • Facilitate clinical experiences for each student per course objectives
  • Coordinate supervision of simulation-based clinical education when applicable
  • Evaluate students' clinical practice and provide feedback
  • Collaborate with course faculty on remediation if necessary
  • Guide students in growth of clinical decision‑making and judgment skills
  • Promote competency in clinical skills and professional communication

Job description

Under administrative direction of the UNH School of Nursing Director, this position facilitates and supervises clinical experiences for students in educational placements in health and social care settings. The Nursing Clinical Learning Specialist, faculty, health and social care providers, and the clinical agencies will collaborate to deliver a comprehensive and high-quality clinical education experience.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision of students within the clinical setting, assist the students to accomplish the clinical learning objectives defined by the course (70%)
  • Understand the course and clinical objectives of the course to which they are assigned to provide clinical instruction and be familiar with the overall academic program curriculum.
  • Provide supervision of students within the clinical setting and provide safe, quality patient or client care in a positive and supportive learning environment
  • Assist the students to accomplish the clinical learning objectives defined by the course
  • Facilitate clinical experiences for each student in the clinical group(s) for which they are assigned consistent with course and clinical objectives
  • If applicable, provide supervision of students engaging clinical education through simulation activities
Evaluate Student Performance (20%)
  • Evaluate students' clinical practice and provide feedback to students on their accomplishment of clinical objectives.
  • Collaborate with course faculty in student remediation plans if necessary.
Guide students in their growth in the relevant health or social care profession (10%)
  • Validate students' understanding of theoretical, scientific, and evidence-based practice to support safe and effective care.
  • Assist the students to learn clinical decision‑making and clinical judgment skills, develop competency in the execution of clinical skills and foster good communication skills with patients, clients, families, and other members of the health or social care team.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in Nursing and 2 years of experience in the relevant clinical specialty area - or-
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with enrollment in a master's degree program and five years of experience in the relevant clinical specialty area.
  • Unencumbered Registered Nurse license within relevant State(s)
Required Licenses & Certifications:
  • Unencumbered RN license within relevant State
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Must comply with health documentation requirements of clinical facilities

  • Strong clinical expertise in nursing practice
  • Effective teaching and communication skills and ability to facilitate student learning in clinical settings
  • Skilled in student evaluation and feedback
  • Proficient in clinical documentation and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Ability to model professional behavior and ethical practice
  • Commitment to student success and academic excellence
  • Ability to collaborate with academic and clinical partners
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in clinical teaching/precepting

Compensation Pay Range
  • $47,920.00 - $85,410.00
