Unit Details

The 9300 Medical/Oncology unit is a 31-bed adult intermediate/step-down unit caring for patients with solid tumors, from diagnosis to end of life. The team, #9300dreamteam, provides advanced therapies, including chemotherapy and research, with a focus on compassionate care.

Position Overview

The Nursing Care Assistant I performs non-professional nursing duties under RN/LPN supervision to support patient care.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients and equipment for procedures, assist with manual tasks
• Record patient data and inform RN/LPN of observations
• Provide personal care (feeding, bathing, grooming, ambulation, etc.)
• Reinforce patient education as instructed by RN/physician
• Assist with physical exams, dressing changes, and patient weighing
• Monitor vital signs, record intake/output, and assist with treatments like enemas and skin care
• Report changes in patient condition
• Turn, position, and feed patients as needed
• Perform finger sticks for blood glucose testing
• Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transports
• Follow safety protocols and use PPE
• Collect and deliver specimens, restock supplies
• Participate in professional development and support team growth
• Perform sterile wound dressings, IV assistance, and other procedures as trained

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Nurse Aide I Registry listing (NC DHHS)
• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association)
