Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) is a patient care support partner working under the delegation of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The NA provides direct patient care, assists with non-direct care unit coordination, and performs basic care and comfort standards. They must have knowledge of patient population needs, assist in the care of acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and adhere to all policies and procedures. The NA maintains the patient environment, performs general unit upkeep, manages supplies, and documents patient care appropriately in the electronic health record.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC-approved Nurse Aide I competency test. High school diploma or equivalent required. Current listing as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the Division of Facility Services, with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect, or misappropriation of property. BCLS certification must be maintained.
