Job description

Overview

Provides direct patient care and related support.

Responsibilities

1. Provides routine personal care to patients in a timely, safe, and effective manner. Care may include bathing, brushing teeth, dressing patients, and attending to all of their personal care needs.
2. Prepares patients for meals, feeds, and/or assists with feeding as necessary.
3. Empties bedpans and collects urine and other specimens.
4. Transfers patients to and from bed and/or chair via one-person transfer, two-person transfer, and use of a Hoyer lift.
5. Takes accurate vital signs including temperatures, blood pressures, pulse, and respiration.
6. Records all necessary information according to policy and procedure.
7. Assists patients in walking and in transporting patients by means of wheelchair or stretcher.
8. Performs ROM exercises using proper technique.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: No prior experience required; some preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Attends ongoing educational programs, including at least 6 hours of in-service education every 6 months.
• Basic ability to utilize electronic record systems, equipment, and healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
• Practices safety rules at all times to prevent accidents, e.g., applies bed rails and keeps rooms in order.

Licenses, Certifications

New York State Certification as a Nursing Attendant.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and walking throughout the workday.
• Stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
