Nursing Attendant-8W-Med/Surg-Full Time Day 7am-3pm-MSM

Description

The Nursing Attendant supports the Registered Professional Nurse by providing direct patient care and related activities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist nursing staff with procedures, treatments, vital signs, and patient care activities.
  2. Perform activities of daily living, mobility, and personal hygiene tasks.
  3. Observe, record, and report patient data, behaviors, and responses to treatment.
  4. Report pertinent patient information to the registered nurse.
  5. Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  6. Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
  7. Maintain food and fluid intake records.
  8. Manage excretion and fluid loss procedures.
  9. Support safe patient lifting, positioning, and ambulation, using mechanical devices as needed.
  10. Apply heat and cold therapies as appropriate.
  11. Care for deceased patients and support their families, securing property.
  12. Prepare and maintain diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
  13. Assist with physical exams and other procedures.
  14. Conduct hourly rounding, noting pain, position, toileting, and possessions.
  15. Report and document patient valuables.
  16. Transport patients and escort ambulatory patients.
  17. Run errands such as transporting specimens and supplies.
  18. Maintain a clean, organized environment and equipment.
  19. Follow safety protocols and utilize aggression control measures when necessary.
  20. Assist with patient restraints and observe safety checks.
  21. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors.
  22. Support the mission and values of Mount Sinai Health System.
  23. Participate in ongoing staff development and educational meetings.
  24. Adhere to dress code, attendance, and punctuality standards.
  25. Maintain knowledge of hospital policies, patient rights, and confidentiality.
  26. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Training as a medical or nursing assistant, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred experience in inpatient healthcare.
  • American Heart Association Heartsaver Certification or BCLS.
