The Nursing Assistant Trainee is enrolled in a learning program designed to develop confidence and competence to serve as a caregiver providing personal care to clients. Under supervision of a licensed nurse and in partnership with a preceptor, the trainee provides holistic, client-centered care that promotes independence and respects client rights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. The trainee must work within the role of a non-certified nursing assistant and fulfill all training requirements within the designated timeframe. The program includes online coursework and hands-on skills development. Upon completion, trainees will be prepared to take state exams to obtain CNA or other certification.
While in training, the trainee follows location-specific standards for infection control, PPE use, safety, and privacy. They demonstrate the ability to follow instructions, handle stress, think critically, and prioritize tasks. The trainee works with clients and families to meet physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs, providing age-appropriate care as per the care plan.
The trainee assists with basic healthcare needs and activities of daily living, documents care, communicates client condition changes, and supports with transfers, repositioning, exercises, and mobility. They also assist with meals, hydration, housekeeping, laundry, and other duties within the non-certified nursing assistant scope.
