The Nursing Assistant Trainee is enrolled in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence to serve as a caregiver providing personal care to clients. Under supervision of a licensed nurse, the trainee, with a preceptor, provides holistic, client-centered care promoting independence and client rights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. The trainee works within the role of a non-certified nursing assistant, fulfilling all training requirements in a designated timeframe. The program is delivered in a hybrid format, including online coursework and hands-on skills development. Upon completion, trainees will be prepared to take state exams to obtain CNA or other certifications.
During training, the trainee follows location-specific standards for infection control, PPE use, safety, and privacy. The role requires attention to detail, stress management, critical thinking, and prioritization. The trainee collaborates with clients and families to meet physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs, delivering age-appropriate care as per the care plan.
The trainee assists with basic health care needs, documents care, communicates changes to a licensed nurse, and helps with activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital signs, psychosocial support, transfers, mobility, and nutrition. They also assist with housekeeping, laundry, and other duties within the non-certified nursing assistant scope.
High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum age 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is a plus. Certification and registration with the UAP Registry is required where applicable. Depending on responsibilities, may require a valid driver's license and ability to perform essential driving functions as per policy.
