College/Department Information

Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional nursing care to veterans and is owned and funded by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service. It is operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University and serves as a leader in geriatric educational training for Augusta University.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing nursing care and treatments for geriatric patients. The nurse aide will assist patients with activities of daily living, monitor patients, and report changes to the charge nurse or supervisor as needed. Work is performed with some latitude for independent judgement within the CNA scope of practice.

Responsibilities
  • RESIDENT CARE: Provides care for assigned residents and requests assistance when necessary.
  • ASSIST WITH ADL'S: Assists residents with ADLs such as bathing, shaving, oral care, styling hair, and dressing; distributes meal trays and assists residents in consuming meals; empties urinals and drainage collection bags; records I&O as instructed; collects routine specimens.
  • RESIDENT MONITORING: Monitors resident weight using standing lift and wheelchair scales; monitors vitals as ordered; documents all care provided on the correct form and reports changes in resident condition promptly to the Charge Nurse.
  • RESIDENT TRANSFER: Assists residents in transferring to and from bed, chair, commode, or stretcher using safe transfer techniques and equipment (e.g., Hoyer lifts, transfer boards, gait belts).
  • RESIDENT MAINTENANCE PLAN: Observes for proper circulation as necessary; performs range of motion and ambulation as indicated in the plan of care; maintains the functional maintenance plan as instructed.
  • ROOM AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE: Maintains resident rooms, makes beds, cleans bedside tables, closets, etc.; maintains residents' equipment; rinses soiled clothing and stores for laundry pickup; returns clothes after laundry.
  • RESIDENT ASSISTANCE: Escorts residents to and from areas of the facility and hospitals as assigned; remains with residents as instructed and assists in all areas of care as needed during routine clinic visits.
  • OTHER DUTIES: Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications – High school diploma or GED; Georgia Nursing Assistant certification; experience in geriatric care (prefer long-term care); current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant; experience caring for physically ill individuals in geriatric or long-term care settings.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities – Knowledge of customer service, ability to perform ROM and ambulation as per plan, document care; basic knowledge of human anatomy; proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software/databases.
  • Certifications/License – Current AHA Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification and Georgia Nursing Assistant Certification.

Pay Band: B3
Salary is commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
