Are you looking to establish a fulfilling, hands-on health care career while elevating the patient experience? As a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician with UPMC Presbyterian, you’ll make a meaningful difference by working with our Life Changers to provide high-quality patient care.

The Trauma Service Line at UPMC Presbyterian supports the hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke Certification and Level 1 Trauma designation. The units include: 7G, 9G, and 12D.

  • 7G Trauma: a 13-bed surgical step-down unit with private rooms, serving general surgical, trauma, and toxicological patients.
  • 9G Trauma: a 24-bed trauma and general surgical unit, also receiving overflow orthopedic and neurological trauma patients.
  • 12D Trauma: a 23-bed surgical unit serving general surgical, toxicological, and trauma patients, including overflow vascular and medical patients.

Roles require rotating shifts, including day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Shifts may include 8-hour and 12-hour durations.

All new hires without direct patient care experience will complete mandatory training during their first week, scheduled weekdays during daylight hours.

The role involves providing routine patient care under the supervision of nurses and physicians, including activities such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, repositioning, blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, simple dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and specimen collections.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform core nursing assistant duties, including ADLs, point of care testing, weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, and infection prevention measures.
  • Report equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain professional relationships and contribute to team activities.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Support safety and develop productive relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living, including physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Report patient status changes and provide patient/family education under RN supervision.
  • Apply, monitor, and remove restraints as per protocol.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, safety procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed.
