Job summary

Essentia Health St. Mary’s- Detroit Lakes is seeking a patient care assistant to provide direct care under supervision of RNs and managers.

Responsibilities include personal hygiene support, helping with nutrition, transfers, vital signs, and accurate recordkeeping to promote patient safety and comfort. Position details include 24 hours per week with 8 hour PM shifts, every other weekend and holiday rotation, and PM shift differential.

Qualifications

• Must have completed a recognized nurse aide training program or be registered as a nursing assistant.
• BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with daily living activities.
• Take vital signs and document observations.
• Assist with mobility, transfers, and safety.
• Support nutritional needs and personal hygiene.

Job Description:

Responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN) to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to: Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care and other assistance, appropriately and safely transferring patients, taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping, recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Along with organizes, and implements the non-nursing functions of assigned unit(s) to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff. Position promotes efficient unit function and indirect resident care. Performs clerical and reception duties; requisition supplies, equipment, and services as directed; assist with scheduling.

Education Qualifications:

This position requires the ability to work the following schedule:

• 24 hours per week
• 8 Hour PM Shifts

Hiring Incentive Eligible Position: Qualified candidates may be eligible for a hiring incentive of up to $1500.

Licensure/CertificationQualifications:

• Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program OR current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry.
• BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
