Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Elder Life Program on Williamson Street. The role supports Registered Nurses with hands-on care, vital signs, mobility assistance, and personal care in a patient-centered environment.

You will document patient information in the EHR, monitor conditions, and participate in plan-of-care activities from admission to discharge, while adhering to safety protocols and delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Healthcare experience or CNA certificate preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities and basic nursing care.
• Take and monitor vital signs, perform EKGs, and assist with bedside care.
• Document patient information in the EHR accurately and confidentially.
• Apply infection prevention protocols to maintain a safe environment.
• Communicate with patients, families, and care teams to coordinate plans.
• Provide care in collaboration with Registered Nurses and other staff.

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. Your attention, empathy, and teamwork help restore comfort and dignity for every patient you serve and make our mission to improve lives a reality each day.

As a Nursing Assistant(NA), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS,performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient’s care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this NA opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a Full-Time Evening schedule from 3:00pm to 11:00pmand includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
