Nursing Assistant - Mother Baby Unit

1 shift per week/pay period, 7am - 7pm. Must work every third weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Summary:
  • Provides service-oriented patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Supports the operation of the nursing unit.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides age-appropriate care for the patient population.
  • Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs.
  • Integrates infection prevention principles into practice.
  • Stocks all patient care rooms and closets at the start of each shift; orders necessary supplies.
  • Checks the blanket/fluid warmer outside the OR for outdated materials; stocks with blankets, sheets, gowns; dates solutions; records warmer temperature.
  • Docks Neptune and restocks cartridges.
  • Brings a bed from Mother Baby and places it outside the OR for C/Section.
  • Maintains equipment room: ensures cleanliness and organization, cleans and bags peanut balls/birthing balls and monitors, organizes instruments.
  • Stocks and prepares vaginal delivery table.
  • Post-delivery: makes an icepack, provides beverages, brings infant scale to room, removes delivery table, delivers used instruments to Sterile Processing.
  • Picks up sterile supplies from Sterile Processing.
  • Ensures utility room is clean and orderly, maintains placenta refrigerator, takes placentas to lab, restocks Formalin.
  • Secures HUGS tags and stocks baby cribs.
  • Prepares OR for C-section using sterile technique.
  • Assists with vital signs, fetal monitoring, bedside glucose testing as directed by RN.
  • Enters lab results into PENN chart.
Credentials:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Certified Nurse Aid
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Equivalent experience and training at an acute care facility or as a student nurse with hospital clinical experience.
