Job summary

The Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the nursing care team and assists licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving preventive, acute, subacute, chronic, maintenance, and hospice care. The NA may be involved in peer education/mentorship and handles a range of assignments under supervision to support complex nursing needs.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
English Language Proficiency: NAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA guidelines.

Responsibilities

Becoming proficient with maintaining positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
Observe patients' physical or emotional status and refer deviations to supervisor.
Assist in performing prescribed medical treatments and interventions.
Maintain a therapeutic environment and report hazards or faulty equipment.
Work as a cooperative, courteous member of the interdisciplinary team.
Document patient status and coordinate with the RN to support the nursing care plan.
